Institute for Canadian Citizenship

The Institute for Canadian Citizenship helps accelerate new citizens’ integration into Canadian life through creative programs, collaborations and volunteer opportunities, encouraging new citizens to take their place in Canada and embrace active citizenship in their daily life.

The Institute for Canadian Citizenship aspires to be Canada’s leading non-government voice on active citizenship based on the principles that citizenship is what unites all Canadians, that progressive social, economic, and political integration policies reinforce the value of citizenship, that active citizenship requires taking responsibility for others, and that aboriginal culture is a founding pillar of Canadian society.

The Institute, founded and co-chaired by the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson and John Ralston Saul, builds upon Aboriginal Canadians’ tradition of welcoming others.
